The New Providence District Convention of The Bahamas Baptist Union of Churches

The New Providence District of the Bahamas Baptist Union of Churches was established in 1959 under the leadership of the late Superindent, Rev. Enoch Backford Sr.

Rev. Backford, a man of great foresight, at the time, recognized the need for a greater fellowship among the Union churches in New Providence. It was a step of faith and vision and today, we thank God for having brought the New Providence District to witness the celebration of its Golden Jubilee during the year 2009.

The annual meetings are held and have been so designed that they culminate the first Sunday in December of each year, when all of the Pastors and members who are in attendance, gather around the Lord’s Table for the partaking of the Lord’s Supper and for a great time of fellowship.

The first President was one of our late Superintendents in the person of Rev. Dr. L.D. Cox who served from 1959-1976. Other officers of the Parent body who served as Presidents were:

The New Providence District Convention of The Bahamas Baptist Union of Churches

The New Providence District Men’s Department was organized on the 9th September 1980 during the Presidency of the Rev. Dr. Charles W. Saunders and the Superintendency of the Bahamas Baptist Union by Rev. L D. Cox.

The first annual session was held on September 20, 1981.
